Acquired common variable hypogammaglobulinaemia and lymphoedema.
Two patients with lymphoedema of the legs developed recurrent respiratory infections and were found to have panhypogammaglobulinaemia. The early recognition and treatment of this form of immunity deficiency in patients with lymphoedema is important in order to prevent recurrent infections which could cause pulmonary damage and further lymphatic stasis.
متن کاملAcquired hypogammaglobulinaemia and sarcoidosis.
A syndrome has been described in which hypogammaglobulinaemia is associated with splenomegaly and haemolytic anaemia and also non-caseating granulomata in lymph nodes, liver, spleen and skin. This report describes a patient with this syndrome who in addition had a positive Kveim and elevated serum angiotensin converting enzyme (SACE), suggesting the diagnosis of sarcoidosis.
متن کاملPrimary "acquired" hypogammaglobulinaemia and amyloidosis.
The clinical details and post-mortem findings are given of a patient who had primary ;acquired' hypogammaglobulinaemia and was found at necropsy to have amyloidosis. The relationship of gamma globulin deficiency to amyloidosis is discussed, and the possible relevance of the hypogammaglobulinaemia to the formation and nature of amyloid is noted. It is suggested that a disordered immune response ...
متن کاملClinical and biological characteristics of Ureaplasma urealyticum induced polyarthritis in a patient with common variable hypogammaglobulinaemia.
Persistent infectious polyarthritis caused by Ureaplasma urealyticum in a patient with common variable hypogammaglobulinaemia is described. The patient developed a symmetrical, destructive polyarthritis and tenosynovitis associated with a markedly depressed synovial fluid glucose concentration and characteristic soft tissue abscesses. The ureaplasma organism developed resistance to multiple ant...
متن کاملLymphoid interstitial pneumonitis associated with common variable hypogammaglobulinaemia treated with cyclosporin A.
Lymphoid interstitial pneumonitis (LIP) is a rare clinicopathological entity that may be associated with common variable immune deficiency (CVID) and may lead to respiratory failure and death. Some patients may respond to prolonged corticosteroid treatment. We hypothesised that, in view of the predominant T cell nature of LIP, cyclosporin A would be a more appropriate choice of immunosuppressiv...
